Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain has warned that patients infected with dengue fever this year run the risk of experiencing internal and external bleeding (hemorrhage).

He shared this information on Saturday morning (June 6) during the inauguration ceremony of a three-month special anti-dengue drive at Rabindra Sarobar in Dhanmondi.

The Health Minister stated that physicians fear this year’s dengue strain will be exceptionally severe, specifically identifying it as "hemorrhagic."

Patients contracting this form of dengue may experience immediate hemorrhaging. He urged everyone to raise awareness early to deal with the situation.

To combat the spread of the disease, the minister announced that mobile courts would begin operations in the next two to three days. He added that during inspections, relevant individuals will be fined if dengue mosquito larvae are detected on the premises of any institution.

The administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Abdus Salam, was also present at the inaugural event. He emphasized that public awareness is the most critical factor in preventing dengue.

Citing data from a DSCC survey, he noted that 63 wards under the Dhaka South jurisdiction are at risk, with 28 of them classified as highly vulnerable.

Administrator Abdus Salam further remarked that responsibility for preventing dengue must be shared equally, with 50 percent resting on citizens and 50 percent on the City Corporation. Only when both sides perform their duties equally can dengue be effectively prevented.
