The pressure is mounting on UK City Minister Tulip Siddiq amid corruption allegations. Following calls from the opposition in the UK Parliament, the country's Anti-Corruption Coalition has now urged Tulip to step down from her anti-corruption responsibilities. This coalition includes globally renowned organizations like Oxfam and Transparency International.

The British news outlet BBC reported on Tuesday, January 14, that the UK Anti-Corruption Coalition has called for Tulip Siddiq to resign from her role in addressing internal corruption in the UK's financial markets.

Tulip Siddiq, a member of the ruling Labour Party's cabinet, serves as the Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister, responsible for tackling corruption within the UK's financial markets. However, she is currently under investigation in her home country, Bangladesh, where she and four family members are accused of embezzling approximately 400 million USD from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project.

In addition, there are allegations in the UK that Tulip accepted a free apartment from close associates of her aunt, Sheikh Hasina, while serving as a minister. Questions have arisen about whether she received this gift in exchange for special favors.

Amid these allegations, Kemi Badenoch, leader of the country's main opposition Conservative Party, has recently called on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to dismiss Tulip Siddiq. However, Hampstead and Highgate MP Tulip Siddiq has denied any wrongdoing.

Prime Minister Starmer's official spokesperson stated that the Prime Minister continues to have full confidence in his minister, and there are currently no plans to replace her.

The UK Anti-Corruption Coalition issued a statement highlighting the serious "conflict of interest" posed by the allegations against Tulip Siddiq and her role in the British government. They noted that the Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigation involving her aunt and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has implicated Tulip Siddiq.

The coalition added that decisions crucial to maintaining the UK's international credibility and reputation fall under Tulip Siddiq's responsibilities. However, due to the conflict of interest arising from the allegations against her, it is unclear whether she is in a position to make such decisions.
