United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has called for a swift investigation into a devastating bombing at a girls' school in Minab, southern Iran.

According to local authorities, the attack claimed the lives of 168 people, including 110 children.

U.S. media reports indicate that military investigators are considering the possibility that U.S. forces may have accidentally struck the school, though no final conclusion has been reached.

Speaking at a UN Human Rights Council discussion on the protection of children in conflict, Türk emphasized that the responsibility for a "fast, impartial, transparent, and thorough" investigation lies with those who carried out the strike.

He stressed the need for accountability and a clear determination of the facts.

Both the United Nations and the United States have confirmed they are conducting separate investigations into the tragedy.
