India’s state-owned carrier, Air India, has announced a temporary suspension and reduction of flights across several international routes, including services to Bangladesh.
The revised schedule is set to take effect from June and will continue through August 2026.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the airline cited the excessive rise in international jet fuel prices and certain airspace restrictions as the primary reasons for this adjustment.
Air India stated that this 'rationalization' is intended to maintain schedule stability and prevent last-minute cancellations.
Key Changes in the South Asia Region:
Mumbai-Dhaka: Direct flights on this route have been fully suspended temporarily.
Delhi-Dhaka: The frequency of weekly flights has been reduced.
Other Regional Routes: Flights from Delhi to Kathmandu, Colombo, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore will also see a reduction in frequency.
The Delhi-Chicago service will remain suspended until August, while the number of flights to Toronto and Vancouver has been decreased.
In Europe, routes to Paris, Rome, Zurich, Vienna, and Copenhagen will operate with fewer flights. However, the Mumbai-Newark route will continue to operate daily.
Air India dismissed viral social media claims suggesting that "all international flights are suspended until July" as completely baseless.
The airline reassured passengers that despite the adjustments, it will continue to operate over 1,200 international flights per month across five continents, including 57 weekly flights to the UK and 158 flights to SAARC countries.
The airline has pledged direct support to passengers whose flights have been cancelled or rescheduled. Affected travelers have three options:
