Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants launched a deadly assault on a security checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan, killing six paramilitary personnel and abducting eight others, security officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The coordinated attack occurred on Monday when dozens of fighters from the militant group stormed a checkpoint in the city of Peshawar using an arsenal of firearms, hand grenades, and mortar shells.

A security official, speaking to AFP on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media, confirmed that the TTP has already claimed responsibility for the incident.

Providing further details on the casualties, a second security official stated, “Six personnel of the Federal Constabulary (FC) were martyred and four others wounded in an attack carried out by armed militants.”

The FC is a vital paramilitary force that serves as the frontline security defense in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which shares a porous border with Afghanistan.

Regarding the captured forces, the second source added, “The militants abducted eight FC personnel and took them to an undisclosed location.”

Following the raid, the TTP reinforced its claim of responsibility by posting an image of the captured security personnel on its official social media channels. Pakistan's military has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the attack.

This latest assault underscores Pakistan's ongoing struggle against escalating insurgencies in its western frontier regions.

Islamabad has frequently accused the neighboring Afghan Taliban government in Kabul of providing safe havens to these militant factions—a claim that Kabul has consistently rejected.

The security situation in the region remains highly volatile, with militants having killed 26 people across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in various attacks just last month.

These persistent militancy allegations have severely strained diplomatic relations between Kabul and Islamabad, escalating tensions into fatal cross-border skirmishes and prompting Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghan territory.
