Three mosques and several shrines have been demolished in the Indian state of Gujarat without any prior notice, according to a report by The Hindustan Gazette published on Monday (30 June).

The report stated that a total of 30 structures were demolished in the Kutch district of Gujarat, which included three mosques and shrines.

Following the incident, a delegation from the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, led by Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi, visited the Kutch district.

Maulana Qasmi stated that they received no explanation from the relevant authorities as to why the mosques were demolished without any prior notification.

Among the demolished structures was the Juna Kandla Mosque. The mosque's caretaker shared that the demolition took place suddenly, adding that anyone attempting to protest or obstruct the process at the time would have been detained.

The mosque had been registered with the Waqf Board since 1965 and was well-known among locals for its beautiful architecture.

Mohammad Samar, president of the mosque committee, said they attempted to speak with the authorities and approach the site during the demolition. However, they were barred from entering the area and were instead threatened.

Another mosque in Adipur was also among the structures pulled down.

A government official confirmed that a total of 30 structures were demolished, comprising 11 religious sites, 17 commercial establishments, and two residential properties.
