U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has ordered the withdrawal of 5,000 American troops from Germany, the Pentagon confirmed on Friday.

The move marks a significant escalation in the growing rift between President Donald Trump and European allies amid the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The decision follows a recent and heated exchange between President Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, after which the U.S. President had threatened to reduce the American military presence in the country.
