A United States service member has died while deployed as part of the military mission in Iraq. The soldier reportedly lost his life following a training-related incident at the Erbil Air Base in northern Iraq. While the exact circumstances of the fatality remain unconfirmed, the matter is currently under investigation.

The news was reported by TRT World on Thursday (June 4), following a confirmation from the Pentagon on Wednesday (June 3).

The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Sergeant Devin A. Seibel, a resident of Robinson, Texas. According to the Pentagon’s statement, Sgt. Seibel passed away on May 31 at the Erbil Air Base. He was deployed in support of "Operation Inherent Resolve," the U.S.-led military campaign against the extremist group Daesh (Islamic State or ISIS).

The Pentagon noted that an investigation is underway to determine the specific circumstances or underlying causes of the death. However, the U.S. administration has not yet released further details regarding the incident.

According to Department of Defense records, Sergeant Seibel was an active-duty soldier assigned to the Air Ambulance Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, based out of Fort Carson, Colorado.

Operation Inherent Resolve was launched in June 2014 with the objective of defeating ISIS militants in Iraq and Syria through a multinational military coalition.
