Court Orders Red Notice Against Tulip Siddiq

A Dhaka court has ordered the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice against Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, the niece of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, over allegations of illegally obtaining a luxury apartment from Eastern Housing Limited through abuse of power.

On Thursday (February 26), Judge Md. Sabbir Foyez of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court passed the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Md. Riaz Hossain, a bench assistant at the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, confirmed the development to the media.

Allegations of Corruption
According to the ACC's application, a case is pending against Tulip Siddiq for allegedly abusing her political influence to illegally acquire a flat in the Gulshan-2 area from Eastern Housing Limited.

The investigation officer informed the court of the following:

Absconding: The accused has reportedly fled the country.

Tampering with Evidence: There are allegations that she is attempting to destroy evidence related to the case.

Taking these factors into consideration, the court granted permission to initiate the process of issuing a Red Notice through Interpol to facilitate her arrest and return to face trial.

Contextual Background
Tulip Siddiq, a high-profile figure and relative of the ousted Prime Minister, is among several individuals currently facing legal scrutiny following the recent political transition in Bangladesh.

The "Red Notice" is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition or similar legal action.
