The Supreme Court of Bangladesh has announced that both the Appellate and High Court Divisions will conduct judicial proceedings virtually every Wednesday and Thursday, effective from April 22.
The decision, aimed at addressing the ongoing global energy crisis, was formalized through a notification signed by Supreme Court Registrar General Mohammad Habibur Rahman Siddiquee.
The move aligns with the Information and Communication Technology Use in Courts Act of 2020 and follows specific practice directions issued by the apex court.
While the midweek sessions will move to a digital format to conserve fuel and electricity, the notification clarified that physical court operations will continue as usual on all other working days.
To facilitate the transition, the Supreme Court confirmed that daily cause lists and virtual meeting IDs for all hearings—including those for the Chamber Judge Court—will be regularly updated on the official Supreme Court website.
These links will also be made available through the respective judicial benches to ensure smooth access for legal professionals and litigants.
This new directive expands upon an earlier decision made on April 19, which initially limited virtual sessions to only the High Court Division.
Under the updated mandate, the entire Supreme Court structure will now participate in the energy-saving initiative, with the virtual schedule remaining in effect until further notice.
