A court here today (Thursday) set October 26 for holding a hearing on charge framing in a case filed under the Arms Act against former law minister Anisul Huq.

A court in Dhaka on Thursday postponed until October 8 the charge framing hearing in a case initiated against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 33 other individuals concerning the alleged murder of truck driver Hossain during the July-August Mass Uprising 2024.

Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury was sworn in as a permanent judge of the High Court Division on Thursday.

A local court on Tuesday ordered Maksuda Islam, the first wife of Satkhira-4 constituency Member of Parliament Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam, to be remanded in judicial custody regarding a case alleging her abetment in the suicide of his second wife, Mariam Khatun.  Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ripon Hossain issued the directive after law enforcement personnel presented Maksuda in court upon the conclusion of her one-day police remand, requesting her continued detention until the investigation concludes.  The court had granted a one-day remand for Maksuda and a four-day remand for Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam on September 21. Law enforcement recovered Mariam's body hanging from a ceiling fan inside Flat 203, situated on the third floor of Building 5 at NAM Bhaban, on the evening of September 20, leading to the immediate detention of the Satkhira-4 lawmaker and his first wife.  Following the incident, Mariam's father, SM Masum Billah, lodged a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on the morning of September 21, naming Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Maksuda Islam, and Mariam's maternal uncle Obaidur Rahman as accused parties for allegedly abetting the suicide.

A local court on Tuesday issued a travel restriction prohibiting four individuals, including former Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Saida Muna Tasneem and her husband Touhidul Islam Chowdhury, from exiting the country amid ongoing corruption inquiries.
