A Dhaka court has extended the deadline to September 23 for the submission of the investigation report in a financial misconduct case naming former Bangladesh cricket captain Shakib Al Hasan alongside 14 other individuals over alleged stock market manipulation, fraud and money laundering.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Shahjahan Kabir issued the directive following the Anti-Corruption Commission's (ACC) failure to present its investigative findings on the scheduled date.
The case was originally launched on June 17, 2025, by ACC Assistant Director Sajjad Hossain.
Besides Shakib Al Hasan, the remaining 14 accused listed in the case are Abul Khair, Deputy Registrar of the Department of Cooperatives; his wife Qazi Sadia Hasan; Abul Kalam Matbor; Kanika Afroz; Mohammad Bashar; Sajed Matbor; Aleya Begum; Qazi Fuad Hasan; Qazi Farid Hasan; Shirin Akter; Zaved A Matin; Jahed Kamal; Humayun Kabir; and Tanvir Nizam.
Case details reveal that the accused group allegedly manipulated stock prices by executing illegal serial trades through their respective beneficiary owner (BO) accounts, engaging in deceitful market transactions, gambling, and speculative trading.
Through these unlawful practices, the defendants allegedly siphoned off a total of BDT 256.97 crore, an amount explicitly classified by investigators as "proceeds of crime".
