A series of arson attacks and cocktail explosions shook the capital city of Dhaka on Saturday (September 19).

Between sunset and 11:30 PM, passenger buses and public transport vehicles were reported set on fire in at least five different areas.

Additionally, explosions involving crude bombs (cocktails) were reported across multiple neighborhoods.

Around 7:00 PM, two passenger buses were set on fire almost simultaneously in the capital's Mirpur-11 and Mirpur-1 areas.

Shortly after, at approximately 7:50 PM, another fire broke out near the Madhya Badda U-loop—directly opposite the Canadian University of Bangladesh—targeting a staff bus belonging to "Alif Enterprise."

Later, at around 9:30 PM, a pickup van was set on fire in front of the South Keraniganj Police Station.

Meanwhile, at least four cocktail explosions occurred consecutively at the Jatrabari intersection after dark.

According to reports, four crude bombs were detonated on the incoming lane of the Dhaka-Mawa highway, in front of Samad Super Market at the Jatrabari intersection.

A rickshaw puller named Billal was injured in the incident.

Police stated that unidentified individuals detonated the four cocktails at the location, injuring the rickshaw puller, Md. Billal.

According to the latest reports, another cocktail explosion took place around 10:30 PM at the Kamalapur railway station in the capital. However, detailed information regarding this incident is not yet available.

Earlier, starting from after Jummah prayers on Friday (September 18) through the night, cocktail explosions were reported in various parts of the capital, including Jatrabari, Moghbazar, and Agargaon.

On the same night, miscreants also set fire to a passenger bus in the Kafrul area of Mirpur.

To prevent such subversive activities, law enforcement agencies have already stepped up security measures across the capital.

As part of these measures, over two hundred checkposts have been set up citywide, alongside an increase in police patrols.

According to sources within the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), police are operating more than 200 checkposts at various vital points across the capital.

Special surveillance has also been established at four key entry points to the city, where vehicles entering and exiting are being monitored and suspicious individuals and transports are being searched.
