Ten firefighting units have brought a massive fire under control at Mansur Khan Plaza in the capital's old Dhaka area of Chawkbazar, following a grueling 12-hour operation.
The blaze was brought under control at 5:20 AM on Tuesday (October 13).
An official from the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters media cell, confirmed that ten units successfully contained the fire at the multi-story commercial building.
According to the fire service, all goods stored on the sixth floor of the market were completely gutted in the fire.
Two firefighters fell ill from heavy smoke inhalation while battling the flames, with crews working under severe hazardous conditions to extinguish the fire.
Officials noted that narrow alleys in Old Dhaka and structural complexities of the buildings severely hampered firefighting efforts and delayed access to the scene.
Earlier, the fire service received reports of the fire on Monday (October 12) at 5:04 PM.
