A fire that broke out at the Cargo Village area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital has been brought under control.

Four units of the Fire Service acted swiftly to contain the blaze.

The fire was brought under control at around 11:38 PM on Friday (June 5).

Earlier, the fire originated at 11:24 PM on Friday adjacent to Gate No. 9 of the airport's Cargo Village.

However, the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damages could not be immediately determined.

Rashed Bin Khalid, duty officer of the Fire Service Headquarters Control Room, stated that they received reports of the fire at 11:24 PM.

Initially, the airport's internal fire service unit began containment efforts, and was later joined by two units from the Uttara station.

Although two additional units were subsequently dispatched, the first two units arrived and managed to bring the fire under control by 11:38 PM. It took some additional time to completely extinguish the flames.

Previously, on October 18 last year, a massive fire had broken out at the Shahjalal Airport Cargo Village complex at around 2:30 PM.

It took 37 units from 13 fire stations nearly six and a half hours to bring that blaze under control, during which flight operations were temporarily suspended.

A total of 35 people, including 25 Ansar members, were injured while fighting that fire.
