BCB appoints new coach

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Naveed Nawaz as the Head Coach and Batting Consultant of the Bangladesh Under-19 team. The country's cricket governing body confirmed the matter in a statement on Saturday (June 1).

He has been appointed on a two-year contract until 2026. The title-winning coach will also work as a batting consultant for the youth as well as the age-group team.

After retirement in 2005, Nawaz concentrated on coaching. He has the experience of coaching various clubs in domestic cricket in Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka's Under-19 team, women's national team.

He took charge of the Bangladesh Under-19 team in 2018. The red-green team was runners-up in the 2019 Youth Asia Cup. Then the youth lifted the title in the Youth World Cup in South Africa. BCB extended the contract with him after the title celebration.

Bangladesh also played in the 2022 Youth World Cup. However, the Tiger youth could not do well. Then the BCB did not renew the contract. In April that year, Nawaz was appointed as the assistant coach of the Sri Lankan national team. He had been there for so long.
