The National Sports Council (NSC) has dissolved the board of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) following a comprehensive investigation that uncovered widespread election fraud, coercion, and government interference.

In a major leadership shift, former national captain Tamim Iqbal has been appointed to head an 11-member interim ad-hoc committee.

The dissolution follows a probe into the 2025 BCB elections, held under the previous interim government. The NSC's report alleges a coordinated effort to rig the polls using a compromised e-voting system.

According to investigators, voters were coerced by government officials to cast electronic ballots collectively from the Hotel Sheraton in Banani, a move the NSC says destroyed the fundamental principle of a secret ballot.

The investigation directly implicates former Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud, his assistant Saiful Islam, and ousted BCB President Aminul Islam in orchestrating the manipulation.

The report claims they exerted "severe pressure" on district and divisional leaders to nominate favored individuals. To facilitate the scheme, the NSC alleges that nomination deadlines were repeatedly extended without justification to covertly replace councilors.

Further findings revealed a pattern of administrative abuse, including the publication of conflicting voter lists and the illegal expansion of regional ad-hoc committees in Chattogram and Rangpur beyond constitutional limits.

The NSC also cited a severe abuse of executive power by Aminul Islam, who allegedly nominated 10 former cricketers as councilors without board authorization.

Despite the gravity of these charges, both Asif Mahmud and his assistant reportedly refused to appear before the investigation committee.

The newly appointed ad-hoc committee, led by Tamim Iqbal, is mandated to manage daily operations and oversee a "free, fair, and transparent" election within the next three months.

Joining Tamim on the committee are Rashna Imam, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khosru, Minhajul Abedin, Athar Ali Khan, Tanjil Chowdhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam, and Fahim Sinha.
