Bangladesh's ambitions of advancing to the men's kabaddi semifinals at the ongoing Asian Games were crushed on Tuesday following a 40-37 loss to host nation Japan in their third Group A fixture at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium in Nagoya, Japan.

Although a win was imperative for Bangladesh to claim a semifinal spot and guarantee at least a bronze medal, the Japanese team dominated the majority of the contest to secure the win.

Japan held a 31-20 advantage at the halftime interval, while Bangladesh earned two lona compared to four recorded by Japan.

The Bangladeshi side had previously built momentum toward a podium finish after winning their initial two Group A encounters against South Korea and Chinese Taipei, but the setback against Japan eliminated all chances of progression.

Bangladesh will conclude their Group A fixtures when they meet title contenders India on Wednesday.
