Bangladesh cemented their dominance in the three-match T20 International series by completing a 3-0 whitewash against Afghanistan.
The Tigers secured a comfortable victory in the final match of the series on Sunday (October 5) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, ensuring the clean sweep.
Chasing a target of 144 runs, Bangladesh initially faced some pressure but ultimately crossed the finish line in just 18 overs, thanks to a blazing innings from Saif Hassan.
Although opener Parvez Hossain departed for 14, Tanzid Hassan and Saif Hassan kept the scoreboard moving aggressively at the other end.
Saif’s sixes during the powerplay accelerated the run rate. After Tanzid was dismissed for 33, Jaker Ali and Saif steered the team closer to the victory target.
In the final overs of the innings, Saif Hassan brought up his fifty, the fourth of his international T20 career. He single-handedly smashed 15 runs off an over from Ahmadzai, including a six that landed on the gallery roof, taking him to the 50-run landmark. Nurul Hasan then finished the job with a winning six, handing Bangladesh an easy win.
Earlier, Afghanistan batted first and posted 143 runs in their allotted 20 overs. For the Afghans, Darwish Rasooli top-scored with 32, while Sediqullah Atal made 28, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman remained unbeaten on 23.
Among the Bangladesh bowlers, Saifuddin was the standout with 3 wickets, while Nasum Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan Sakib claimed 2 wickets each.
This victory is particularly sweet for Bangladesh as it avenges the 3-0 whitewash they suffered against a full-strength Afghanistan side back in 2018 in Dehradun.
While Bangladesh did defeat Rashid Khan's team 2-0 in 2023, the elusive revenge for the three-match series clean sweep had remained unattained—until today.
