In a major development for the upcoming T20 World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly accepted the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) request to relocate its matches from India.
The matches are now expected to be held in Sri Lanka, the tournament’s co-host.
The decision follows the BCB's resolution to not send the national team to India, citing security concerns and the fallout from the recent Mustafizur Rahman controversy.
Key Highlights of the Shift
According to a report by Cricbuzz on Sunday (January 4), the ICC has no objection to moving Bangladesh’s fixtures to Sri Lanka.
While this relocation may require minor adjustments to the tournament schedule, sources indicate that these changes will be finalized within the next few days.
Background of the Conflict
The crisis began when the BCB decided against touring India following the Mustafizur Rahman incident, where the pacer was reportedly released from his IPL contract under instructions from the BCCI.
In an emergency meeting held in Dhaka, the BCB stated:
Bangladesh’s Revised Roadmap
Bangladesh is placed in Group C alongside England, West Indies, Nepal, and Italy.
Under the original schedule, the team was slated to play three matches at Eden Gardens in Kolkata and one at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. With the ICC’s recent nod, these high-stakes encounters will now take place on Sri Lankan soil.
