Asif Nazrul, the Adviser for Youth and Sports as well as Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, has stated that Bangladesh remains firm in its decision not to participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup matches scheduled to be held in India.
He expressed hope that the International Cricket Council (ICC) can be persuaded to understand Bangladesh’s position.
The Adviser shared these remarks with journalists following a meeting at the Law Ministry's conference room in the Secretariat on Wednesday (January 7).
The meeting was attended by BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul, board directors, and officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
"We will not compromise on the safety of our cricketers, the security of Bangladesh, or the nation's dignity," Asif Nazrul said. "We want to play cricket; we want to play in the World Cup. We are ready to play in Sri Lanka, which is another host nation."
He further added, "We are adamant in our stance of not playing in India. We hope to present our reasoning logically to the ICC. If the ICC considers our arguments neutrally and with empathy, our participation in the T20 World Cup—for which we have qualified—will be ensured."
It is worth noting that all four of Bangladesh's group-stage matches in the upcoming T20 World Cup were originally scheduled to take place in India.
However, uncertainty has arisen due to the recent deterioration of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and India, alongside security concerns.
Consequently, the BCB has already requested the ICC to move Bangladesh's matches away from Indian venues.
