After posting a formidable first-innings total of 413 on home turf, Bangladesh finished Day 3 in a commanding position against Pakistan. Despite a shaky start with the ball, the Tigers fought back in the final sessions, bowling the tourists out for 386 thanks to a clinical five-wicket haul from Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Bangladesh ended the day with a 34-point lead, reaching 7/0 in their second innings after facing 11 balls before stumps. Openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy (2 off 10) and Shadman Islam (0 off 1) remain unbeaten.
Pakistan’s Resistance and Collapse
The third day saw significant drama, beginning with a rain delay. Before the showers, Pakistan appeared steady at 349/6. However, they could only add 64 runs for their final four wickets once play resumed.
The highlight of the Pakistani innings was debutant opener Azaan Awais, who notched a century in his maiden outing. His patient 103 off 165 balls (including 14 boundaries) anchored the innings until Taskin Ahmed broke a century stand to dismiss him.
The dismissal triggered a mini-collapse as Pakistan slumped from 210 to 230, losing captain Shan Masood (9), Saud Shakeel (0), and Abdullah Fazal (60) in quick succession.
Middle-Order Fightback
The visitors found a lifeline through a 119-run partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha. The duo briefly harbored hopes of a first-innings lead before Taijul Islam removed Rizwan for a well-played 59.
Nahid Rana, who had struggled for rhythm earlier in the match, found his stride after the rain break, claiming the crucial wicket of Salman Agha (58). Following Agha's departure, the tail folded quickly, with Noman Ali (2), Shaheen Afridi (13), and Hasan Ali (6) failing to provide significant resistance.
Bowling Brilliance
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the standout performer for the hosts, claiming 5 wickets to dismantle the Pakistani middle and lower order. He was well-supported by Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam, who picked up two wickets each, while Nahid Rana accounted for the final breakthrough.
With a 27-run first-innings cushion and all wickets in hand, Bangladesh will look to set a steep target on Day 4 to press for a victory.
