Following a goalless draw in regulation time during the final held in Malé, Maldives, on Friday (April 3), the "Red and Greens" secured a 4-3 win on penalties.

Bangladesh’s title was sealed by a successful fifth kick from US-based expatriate footballer Ronan Sullivan.

While Bangladesh dominated much of the first half, India stepped up their offensive pressure in the second.

Despite leading in ball possession and attacks, India struggled to break through the Bangladeshi defense or significantly trouble goalkeeper Mahin.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh created several dangerous opportunities through clinical counter-attacks.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Ronan Sullivan’s brother, Declan, was brought onto the pitch. He initiated several effective attacks from the wings and, in the dying moments of the match, delivered a brilliant long pass to Ronan.

Ronan managed to evade the Indian defenders to take a shot, but the Indian goalkeeper advanced quickly to make the save.

The high-voltage match at the Malé stadium saw a massive turnout of Bangladeshi expatriates. Taking advantage of the Friday holiday, supporters filled the stands to cheer on their national team.

Having been placed in the same group earlier in the tournament, both Bangladesh and India were well-acquainted with each other's tactics.

Consequently, India kept a close watch on Ronan Sullivan, a key figure in the Bangladeshi attack, from the opening whistle. Despite the heavy marking, Ronan remained a constant threat, testing the Indian backline with several skillful attempts.

Both sides fought desperately for a breakthrough throughout the match, creating multiple scoring chances. Bangladesh’s keeper, Mahin, showed great composure, rushing out several times to clear the ball, though a few nervy moments where he failed to gather cleanly fortunately did not result in a goal.

Bangladesh also pushed deep into the opponent's box multiple times but remained unable to find the net within the 90 minutes.

Ultimately, the match was decided by the luck of the draw in a penalty shootout. Bangladesh stood firm under the immense pressure to claim the SAFF U-20 Championship crown.
