Manchester City have clinched the FA Cup title after defeating Chelsea in the final, keeping their hopes of a domestic treble alive.

Pep Guardiola’s side secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chelsea at London’s historic Wembley Stadium on Saturday (May 16).

Having already lifted the League Cup back in March, Man City secured their second domestic trophy of the season with this win over Chelsea. Their pursuit of silverware now shifts entirely to the English Premier League, where they are locked in a intense title race with Arsenal.

With just two matches remaining, only two points separate the teams. To claim the Premier League title, City must win their remaining two games and hope Arsenal drop points.

City had suffered heartbreak in their previous two FA Cup final appearances, finishing as runners-up to Manchester United and Crystal Palace.

However, they made no mistake this time, capturing the eighth FA Cup in the club's history. The triumph also marks the 20th trophy of Pep Guardiola's tenure as manager of the club, including three FA Cup titles.

From the kickoff, Chelsea maintained a compact defensive shape that frustrated Manchester City for long periods.

In the 27th minute, Erling Haaland found the back of the net for the Cityzens, but the Norwegian striker's effort was ruled out for offside.

Just a minute before the interval, Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez made a brilliant save to deny another goalbound effort from Haaland.

The deadlock was finally broken with 18 minutes of regulation time left on the clock. In the 72nd minute, Bernardo Silva played a precise pass looking for Haaland.

From the right flank, the Norwegian star squared the ball into the path of Antoine Semenyo.

Despite heavy pressure from Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, Semenyo controlled the ball superbly and unleashed a clinical, angled strike past Sánchez to spark wild celebrations in the City dugout.

Chelsea squandered a golden opportunity to equalize just five minutes after conceding. Enzo Fernández found space inside City's six-yard box, but his shot flew agonizingly over the crossbar.

Ultimately, Semenyo’s solitary goal proved to be the match-winner.

With the FA Cup secured, City now turn their undivided attention back to the Premier League title race as they prepare to face Bournemouth away on Tuesday.

While the final destination of the league trophy remains uncertain, one thing is guaranteed: even if they miss out on the league title, manager Guardiola will conclude his potentially final season with at least two major trophies.
