Prime Minister Narendra Modi donned a futuristic, indigenous AI-powered wearable called ‘Sarvam Kaze’ during the inauguration of the India AI Impact Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam on Monday evening.

Developed by the Indian startup Sarvam AI, the sleek smart glasses are designed to move intelligence from digital screens into the physical world by listening to, understanding, and capturing what the user sees in real time.

Pratyush Kumar, Co-Founder of Sarvam AI, shared a high-tech walkthrough on social media, identifying the Prime Minister as the very first person to test the device's real-time response capabilities.

The Sarvam Kaze glasses are slated for a market release this May and represent a significant milestone in the "Designed in India, Built in India" initiative.

Beyond the wearable hardware, the device is supported by a platform that allows users to build custom experiences, catering to unique Indian use cases through indigenous large language and speech models.

This launch is part of a broader rollout by Sarvam AI, which has introduced 11 other platforms recently, including the document digitization tool Sarvam Akshar and the multilingual content creator Sarvam Studio.

India’s broader artificial intelligence strategy, backed by the INR 10,372 crore IndiaAI mission launched in 2024, aims to democratize technology and address local challenges.

The mission has already established a robust ecosystem, onboarding over 38,000 GPUs and supporting thousands of students and researchers to develop foundational models.

The unveiling of Sarvam Kaze at the ongoing AI Impact Summit, which runs through February 20, highlights the country’s rapid progress in creating sovereign AI solutions that aim to compete on a global scale while remaining accessible to all citizens.
