There is strict vigilance at the border: Army chief

Army chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed said that the army has strict surveillance on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.

He said this at the flag hoisting ceremony of the newly formed 129 Brigade Signal Company at Shariatpur's Sheikh Russel cantonment on Saturday (June 15).

The army chief said the situation is still under control. Army, Air Force and Navy are ready to protect the sovereignty of the country in any situation.

He said, there is no doubt that the Bangladesh Army is ready to resist any attack in the country in the future. The Coast Guard and BGB are there to prevent border violations, such as Rohingya infiltration. They are fully monitoring the matter. Measures are also being taken as per the instructions of the government. We are ready, we will take appropriate action if the level closes.

He also said that the Bangladesh Army has been successfully performing its duties in the United Nations Mission. Currently Bangladesh Army members are working successfully in Kuwait and Qatar. In the future, the number of military personnel will be increased in these countries. Sheikh Russel cantonment is working round the clock for the security of Padma bridge.

The outgoing army chief said, 'I am thankful to God that during my tenure, the Bangladesh Army was motivated by patriotism and fulfilled the duties with the spirit of service. Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh Army is committed to uplift the status of Bangladesh worldwide and fulfill its responsibility to keep the independent land safe. Army is always ready to perform fearless duty in any situation including critical moments of the country.'

Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed will retire on June 23. He mentioned that it was a matter of luck to end his duties as a chief after working successfully in a force for 43 years.
