The US Embassy in Dhaka marked a significant trade milestone on Wednesday as the first shipment of American corn to arrive in Bangladesh since 2018 docked at Chittagong Port.

The cargo, totaling 57,855 metric tons of premium yellow corn, was harvested in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota during the 2025-26 crop cycle before being dispatched from Vancouver, Washington.

This arrival ends an eight-year hiatus, providing Bangladeshi feed millers with renewed access to high-quality US corn for animal nutrition.

The vessel was welcomed at the port by US Agricultural Attache Erin Covert, alongside a consortium of prominent buyers representing three of the nation's leading feed milling firms: Nahar Agro Group, Paragon Group and Nourish Poultry and Hatchery Limited.

Highlighting the importance of the deal, an official from the United Grain Corporation (UGC), the primary US exporter for this shipment, expressed pride in being part of this historic return to the market.

The representative thanked all stakeholders for their collaboration and noted that the company looks forward to a consistent and long-term partnership in supplying grains to Bangladesh in the coming years.
