Beginning January 21 this year, Bangladeshi citizens applying for US business or tourist visas (B1/B2) will be required to post a refundable security bond of up to USD15,000.
The US Embassy in Dhaka confirmed that this new measure applies to all new visa issuances from that date forward, aimed at ensuring travelers comply with the terms of their stay and depart the United States on schedule.
The policy will not affect travelers who already hold a valid B1/B2 visa issued prior to the January 21 deadline.
Under the new regulations, the specific bond amount—ranging from USD5,000 to USD15,000—will be determined by a consular officer during the mandatory visa interview.
Once paid, the funds will be returned to the applicant after they return to Bangladesh and demonstrate full compliance with their visa conditions.
US authorities have issued a strict warning to applicants against making any bond payments in advance of their interview.
Paying early does not guarantee visa approval, and the Embassy noted that any payments made before an official instruction from a consular officer are non-refundable.
Additionally, travelers are urged to use only the official US government payment portal, as third-party websites claiming to process these bonds are likely scams.
