The body of Bangladeshi migrant worker Mohammad Shraban, who lost his life in a missile attack in Iraq, was repatriated to the country early Friday morning.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam received the coffin at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after a Turkish Airlines flight carrying the body touched down at 4:45 am, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Shraban, the son of Mohammad Noli Mia, hailed from Bakultala village in Munshiganj Sadar upazila. He had been living and working in Iraq's capital city, Baghdad, for the past 10 years.

Officials confirmed that he was killed recently when a missile struck an area in Baghdad amid the ongoing regional conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

The repatriation process was actively coordinated by the Bangladesh Embassy in Baghdad. Giving details of the journey, officials stated that the body was initially flown from Baghdad International Airport on May 27 aboard Turkish Airlines flight TK0843.

Following a transit in Türkiye, the remains were transported to Dhaka via flight TK0712.

State Minister Shama Obaed expressed deep sorrow over the tragic demise of the migrant worker and extended her heartfelt condolences to the grieving family members.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Wage Earners' Welfare Board were also present at the airport to oversee the handover proceedings.

Upon the completion of all necessary airport formalities, the body was officially handed over to the victim’s family.

To assist with immediate needs, the state minister provided BDT 35,000 to cover transportation and burial expenses, along with a special financial grant of BDT 50,000 and other financial assistance due to the bereaved family.
