State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has announced that six Bangladeshi "remittance warriors" have lost their lives amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. She noted that the bodies of three victims have already been repatriated with state assistance.

The State Minister shared this information while speaking to journalists on Friday evening (April 3) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, after receiving the remains of S.M. Tareq, a migrant worker who was repatriated from Bahrain.

During the briefing, Shama Obaed Islam reassured expatriates that the government is engaging in high-level international diplomacy to resolve issues faced by Bangladeshis regarding new visas or the renewal of expired ones due to the war.

She added that local embassies remain vigilant and active under government directives to ensure the safety and livelihoods of Bangladeshis living abroad.

Support for Deceased Worker’s Family
Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, Ariful Haque Chowdhury, was also present at the airport and expressed his deep condolences to the bereaved family. He handed over an immediate assistance check to Tareq’s relatives and promised further support.

The Minister detailed the financial aid being provided:

Immediate Burial Grant: 35,000 BDT provided directly at the airport.

Emergency Financial Aid: An additional check for 50,000 BDT to meet sudden expenses.

Insurance Payout: Necessary steps are being taken to ensure the family receives 1,000,000 BDT (10 lakh) as per the worker's insurance policy.

Minister Chowdhury emphasized that the current government is committed to ensuring that no vulnerable expatriate is deprived of state assistance during this period of regional instability.
