Despite the ongoing vaccination campaign, the measles outbreak remains uncontrolled and is increasingly taking on epidemic proportions. The death toll among young children continues to rise, with five more deaths reported nationwide due to measles symptoms in the last 24 hours.

Furthermore, symptoms of the life-threatening disease were detected in an additional 1,448 individuals during the same period.

According to a regular report released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday afternoon, one death each was recorded in the Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions. Additionally, one child in the Sylhet division was confirmed to have died from measles.

The situation on Sunday, April 26, was even more dire, with a record 1,564 people arriving at hospitals with symptoms, of whom 143 were confirmed cases. Eight children lost their lives on that day alone.

Health officials remain concerned as the number of infections and fatalities continues to climb, emphasizing the need for heightened clinical vigilance and broader vaccination coverage to curb the spread of the virus.
