In the country, six more children have died with measles symptoms over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 803.

This information was released on Wednesday (July 22) in the regular report on measles by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the report, these deaths occurred between 8:00 AM on Tuesday (July 21) and 8:00 AM on Wednesday.

This brings the cumulative death toll since March 15 to 708 deaths from measles symptoms and 95 deaths from confirmed measles, totaling 803 fatalities.

The regular statistics provided by the DGHS do not include age-based breakdowns indicating which age groups or children are being hospitalized more frequently with measles symptoms, or which age groups are experiencing the highest mortality rates.

Epidemiologists note that while measles can affect people of all ages, children are the most vulnerable. During an outbreak, all deaths occurring with measles symptoms are categorized as measles-related deaths.

Today's DGHS report states that measles symptoms were detected in an additional 904 people nationwide over the past 24 hours.

Since March 15, the total number of patients exhibiting measles symptoms has reached 120,352.

According to the DGHS, the number of newly identified confirmed measles patients in the last 24 hours is 133. A total of 14,841 measles cases have been confirmed across the country since March 15.

Between March 15 and the present, 103,078 patients have been hospitalized with measles symptoms. Among them, 99,294 have recovered and been discharged.

The DGHS report indicates that there were no deaths from confirmed measles in the past 24 hours.

Of the six children who died with measles symptoms, four were from the Dhaka division and two from the Sylhet division.

Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that over the six-month period from last December to May, Bangladesh recorded 42,174 cases of measles or measles symptoms—the highest number reported by any country during this timeframe.
