A fire broke out in the server room of MAG Osmani International Airport in the early hours of Sunday, resulting in the destruction of several pieces of high-value equipment.

Despite the damage to the technical infrastructure, airport authorities confirmed that international flight operations and essential immigration services remained unaffected.

According to Airport Director Hafizuddin Ahmed, the blaze was detected around 12 am.

A coordinated emergency response involving the airport’s internal fire service, Ansar personnel, and members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) managed to bring the flames under control within approximately one hour.

"Although the server room sustained damage, the fire was quickly contained," Director Ahmed stated. "Airport operations are continuing normally without any disruption to scheduled flights."

The operation to extinguish the fire was not without its toll, as seven Ansar members sustained injuries while battling the blaze. Senior Station Officer of the Sylhet Fire Service, Kutubuddin, confirmed that the joint effort prevented the fire from spreading to other critical sections of the terminal.

The exact financial impact and the cause of the fire are currently under investigation. A R M Alif, Commander (Additional DIG) of the 7th APBN Sylhet, noted that a full assessment is underway to determine the extent of the technical loss.
