The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced a reduction in the price of gold by BDT 3,266 per bhori on Monday, citing a decline in the price of pure gold, known as 'Tejabi Gold', in the local market.
Effective from 10 am, the new rate for 22-carat gold is set at BDT 225,290 per bhori, inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT).
Under these revised rates, the price of 21-carat gold has been fixed at BDT 215,142 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will retail at BDT 184,758 per bhori.
Gold sourced through traditional methods is now priced at BDT 150,932 per bhori.
The association stated that these new rates will be enforced at all jewellery stores until further notice, though it noted that making charges will continue to vary based on the specific design of the jewellery.
BAJUS emphasized that since VAT is already incorporated into the retail price of gold ornaments, jewellers are strictly prohibited from charging customers any additional VAT.
The association also clarified that existing regulations regarding the exchange and purchase of gold ornaments—excluding specific VAT, making charges and the value of any gemstones—will remain unchanged, and it intends to announce a separate decision regarding VAT on silver ornaments in the near future.
This price adjustment follows a previous increase on June 27, when BAJUS had raised the price of 22-carat gold by BDT 5,482, bringing it to BDT 228,556 per bhori.
Throughout 2026, BAJUS has adjusted gold prices 83 times, with the latest data showing 41 price increases, 41 decreases, and one adjustment involving VAT.
Despite the fluctuation in gold prices, the rates for silver remain steady: 22-carat silver is selling at BDT 4,666 per bhori, 21-carat silver at BDT 4,432 per bhori, 18-carat silver at BDT 3,791 per bhori and traditional-method silver at BDT 2,858 per bhori.
