Commemorative events have been organized across Kushtia, Dhaka, and various divisional cities nationwide to mark the 136th disappearance (death anniversary) day of mystic saint Lalon Sain.
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs will host a three-day event in Kushtia from October 17 to 19. Simultaneously, a special commemorative program will be held on October 17 at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
This information was shared on Tuesday (October 13) in a press release issued by Sabina Yasmin, Public Relations Officer of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The release stated that these events are being organized to pay tribute to Lalon Sain’s songs, philosophy, and humanism. Beyond the divisions of caste and religion, Lalon’s philosophy remains relevant today in the pursuit of human identity and existence.
The commemorative event in Dhaka will begin at 6:00 PM on October 17 at the National Theatre Hall auditorium of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Yasmin Begum, Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, will attend as the chief guest, while artist and researcher Professor Dr. Ahmed Shakil Hashemi will deliver the keynote address.
The program will be presided over by Md. Harun-Or-Rashid, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and acting Director General of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The cultural segment will feature performances by renowned Lalon artists of the country, artists from the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and performers from the Bangladesh Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS).
Additionally, various events focusing on the life and philosophy of Lalon Sain will be held on the same day across different divisional cities and districts. Organizers announced that the commemorative programs will be open to all.
