Four more children have died after exhibiting symptoms consistent with measles over the 24-hour period ending at 8 am on Friday, bringing the total number of confirmed and suspected measles-related fatalities in Bangladesh to 670.

According to the latest update from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), these recent fatalities have been officially classified as suspected measles deaths.

This brings the cumulative count of suspected deaths to 577, while the number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remains steady at 93.

Five Specialised Children's Hospitals Set to Open in Five Divisions

The health authorities also reported a significant spike in new infections, with 1,078 additional suspected measles cases recorded within the same 24-hour window.

This brings the total number of suspected cases nationwide to 90,982.

In addition, health officials confirmed 96 new laboratory-confirmed cases, raising the country's total confirmed infection tally to 10,869.

Data provided by the DGHS further highlights the scale of the ongoing public health challenge, noting that since March 15, a total of 75,156 patients suffering from suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country.

Of those hospitalised, 71,396 patients have successfully recovered, according to the directorate's latest statistics.
