Dr Zubaida Rahman, spouse of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman alongside serving as the vice-president of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF), has stepped forward to assist Jannatul Ferdous, a seventh-grade pupil undergoing medical care at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) while facing severe financial distress.

A specialized medical board is scheduled to be constituted to guarantee adequate treatment for Jannatul, who is presently being tended to within the facility's Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit.

Dr Zubaida undertook the initiative subsequent to viewing a social media recording wherein Jannatul’s relatives implored financial support.

She promptly directed responsible individuals to execute requisite steps and oversee the young girl's healthcare regimen.

In response to her directive, Khulna District BNP Member Secretary and District Council Administrator SM Monirul Hasan Bappi inspected Jannatul at the hospital during Sunday afternoon.

He engaged in discussions with the supervising physicians and coordinated a video conversation connecting the family with ZRF member Dr MR Hasan.

Jannatul’s mother, Azmira Begum, shared that their residence is situated in Koyra upazila and that she experiences immense hardship maintaining her two offspring, featuring an eight-year-old son, subsequent to parting ways with her spouse.

Jannatul pursued her education up to Class VI at Deyana Mohila Dakhil Madrasa located in Daulatpur prior to joining a hifzkhana in Koyra. She subsequently had to interrupt her studies as her physical state deteriorated.

As recounted by her mother, Jannatul’s lower limbs progressively grew paralyzed following an instance of pneumonia contracted when she was merely two months of age. She later developed neurological complications alongside bedsores.

"Treatment had become impossible for us due to lack of money," Azmira articulated.

She mentioned that a video spotlighting their misery was shared across social media networks two days prior and rapidly gained widespread traction.

Following cognizance regarding the household's predicament, citizens reached out to them and pledged backing, she added.

ZRF member Dr MR Hasan stated that Dr Zubaida seized the initiative instantly upon reviewing the footage and instructed ZRF Programme Director Professor Dr Shah Mohammad Aman Ullah, who is assigned to the Prime Minister's Office, to supervise the situation.

"Accordingly, communication has been established with the hospital, and a special medical board will be formed on Monday to ensure Jannatul's proper treatment," he noted.

Bappi conveyed that he was briefed concerning Jannatul’s health via telephone on Saturday evening and inspected her at the hospital shortly thereafter.

He stated that he conversed with the physicians, Jannatul, and her mother, offering assurances that all vital administrative and monetary aid will be extended to facilitate her healing and recovery.
