India has appointed Lieutenant General N. S. Raja Subramani as the next Chief of the Army Staff. Citing the Union Ministry of Defence, news outlet NDTV reported the official announcement.

According to reports, the appointment will take effect following the retirement of the current Chief of the Army Staff, General Anil Chauhan, whose term concludes on May 30.

Lieutenant General Subramani is currently serving as the Military Adviser to the National Security Council Secretariat, a position he has held since September 1, 2025.

Distinguished Military Career
Prior to his current role, Lieutenant General Subramani served as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff from July 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025. His previous leadership experience includes serving as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) from March 2023 to June 2024.

His military journey began in December 1985, when he was commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles, an infantry regiment. Over a career spanning more than 41 years, he has held critical positions in various conflict zones and served in prominent command, staff, and instructional roles.

Academic and Professional Background
Lieutenant General Subramani is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the Indian Military Academy (IMA).

He holds a Master’s degree from King’s College London and has attended the Joint Services Command and Staff College in the UK, as well as the National Defence College in New Delhi.

Throughout his illustrious career, he has been honored with four prestigious awards: Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Sena Medal (SM), Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).
