U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that member nations of the newly formed Board of Peace will pledge $5 billion in financial assistance to rebuild the war-torn Gaza Strip.
Speaking on Sunday (February 15 local time), the President stated that the formal commitment will be unveiled during the Board's inaugural official meeting in Washington this coming Thursday (February 19).
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote: "The Board of Peace will become the most important international organization in history, and it is my honor to serve as its Chairman."
While the President did not specify which member nations would be contributing funds or joining the proposed stability forces, reports from Reuters indicate that the formal announcement regarding the $5 billion-plus package for reconstruction and humanitarian aid is expected during Thursday's summit.
Tensions Persist Despite Ceasefire
Despite ongoing ceasefire efforts, Israeli military actions have continued in Gaza. On Sunday, strikes across several locations killed at least 11 people, according to medical sources.
The Israeli Position: The IDF claims its operations are "precision strikes" conducted in accordance with international law, alleging that Hamas violated ceasefire terms.
The Hamas Response: Spokesperson Hazem Qassem condemned the attacks as a "genocide" against displaced civilians.
