The US State Department has ordered non-emergency government personnel and their family members to depart Saudi Arabia due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

In a travel advisory released on Sunday (March 8), the department also urged American citizens planning to visit the kingdom to reconsider their travel plans.

According to a report by Al Jazeera, the advisory cautions US citizens to weigh the risks of Iranian drone and missile strikes, the targeting of US facilities, armed conflict, terrorism, exit bans, and restrictive social media laws before deciding to travel.

The notice specified that the order follows more than a week of successive Iranian missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia, which have created significant security risks in the region.
