U.S. President Donald Trump has described serving as president as a "dangerous profession." He made the remarks during a press conference following a shooting incident at a hotel in Washington on Saturday (April 25).

Responding to a reporter's question in the White House briefing room regarding concerns over political violence directed at him, Trump admitted to being somewhat concerned but stated he did not want to dwell on it. In his view, the presidency is fundamentally a "dangerous profession."

During the briefing, held shortly after the gunfire at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, Trump joked, "If I had known the presidency could be such a dangerous position, maybe I wouldn't have even run for election."

Shifting to a more serious tone, he added, "Look, I am here to fulfill a responsibility. This [danger] is part of the job. I don't think there is a profession more dangerous than this. However, I love this country, and I am very proud of the work we are doing."

The briefing followed an emergency evacuation of President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other cabinet members after loud bangs were heard during the dinner at the Washington Hilton.

Trump claimed during the briefing that the suspect involved in the shooting possessed "multiple weapons" and described the individual as a "potential assassin." He praised the "extremely brave" members of the U.S. Secret Service who apprehended the suspect.

According to the President, the suspect attacked a security checkpoint with multiple firearms before being neutralized by Secret Service agents. He confirmed that one officer was shot but survived because he was wearing a high-quality bulletproof vest.

Trump noted that the suspect is currently in custody and described the individual as a "very sick-minded person."
