Meanwhile, Iran has further tightened its control over the Strait of Hormuz. The Persian Gulf Strait Authority has declared a "controlled maritime zone" in this critical waterway.

Under the new regulations—stretching from Kuh-e Mubarak to Fujairah in the UAE, and from Qeshm Island to Umm Al-Quwain—all transiting vessels are now required to obtain Iranian permission and coordinate their movement.
