Increased Vigilance to Prevent Theft, Robbery, and Murder: RAB DG

The Director General of RAB (Rapid Action Battalion), Additional IGP A.K.M. Shahidur Rahman, has stated that security measures have been further strengthened nationwide to prevent theft, robbery, murder, and dacoity.

He made this statement early Saturday (February 22) at 2 AM after inspecting RAB's patrol and checkpoints in Matuail, Jatrabari, Dhaka.

Efforts to Maintain Law and Order
The RAB chief emphasized that law enforcement agencies, including RAB, are conducting operations across various regions of the country to combat crime and maintain law and order. He noted that in recent times, certain criminal groups and vested interests have been attempting to create panic among the public by inciting violence and sabotage.

He further stated that criminal activities such as theft, robbery, extortion, and brutal attacks on ordinary citizens are being carried out in different parts of the country. To curb these crimes, RAB is conducting robust patrolling in its designated areas, while additional security forces have been deployed in high-risk and critical areas through continuous patrols.

Nationwide Security Monitoring and Reinforcements
RAB's battalions are working in coordination with other law enforcement agencies through control rooms to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of security across Dhaka and the entire country. Security measures have been tightened through checkposts and searches in various locations.

Additionally, RAB’s Bomb Disposal Unit and Dog Squad have been kept on standby to respond to any potential situation.

To tackle any emergency situation, checkposts have been established at key points in metropolitan cities, district headquarters, and sub-district levels. Increased patrolling and undercover surveillance have also been deployed.

Crackdown on Criminal Groups
The RAB DG mentioned that in recent times, several criminal groups have been engaging in activities such as murder, attempted murder, robbery, extortion, and drug trafficking in Mohammadpur, Adabor, and other parts of the country.

These groups have been involved in gang conflicts for territorial dominance, resulting in clashes, assaults, and attacks with sharp weapons.

RAB has successfully arrested:
Anwar aka Shooter Anwar aka Kabji Kata Anwar, leader of the infamous "Kabji Kata" (Wrist Cutter) gang in Mohammadpur
Bunia Sohel, a notorious terrorist from Geneva Camp
Selim Ashrafi aka Chua Selim, a top drug dealer from Geneva Camp, along with their associates

Arrests and Ongoing Operations
To ensure stability in metropolitan and key district cities, RAB has kept a sufficient number of reserve forces on standby.

Since February 10, RAB has:
Arrested 40 suspects in Dhaka, 25 in Mymensingh, 24 in Rajshahi, 17 in Sylhet, and 15 in Narayanganj, totaling 180 suspects nationwide
Seized illegal firearms and ammunition

The RAB DG reaffirmed that intelligence surveillance and various security operations will continue to maintain law and order and prevent any kind of sabotage or violence across the country.
