The Detective Branch (DB) of police has taken Evaly Managing Director Mohammad Russell and Chairman Shamima Nasrin into custody following the issuance of 391 arrest warrants related to fraud and financial irregularities.
The arrests were confirmed by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of DB (Media) for the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, as part of an ongoing crackdown on allegations of massive customer exploitation and business malpractice.
The high-profile duo, who had previously been released on bail, were apprehended after a surge of complaints from customers and vendors who claim the e-commerce platform failed to deliver goods despite accepting significant advance payments.
Law enforcement officials stated that the executives will be presented before a court, where investigators plan to seek further legal action to facilitate deeper inquiries into the company’s financial dealings.
Once a dominant force in the Bangladeshi e-commerce sector, Evaly has spent the last few years under intense scrutiny.
These latest arrests mark a significant escalation in the legal challenges facing Russell and Nasrin as authorities attempt to address the widespread grievances of thousands of affected stakeholders.
