A Dhaka court on Sunday rescheduled June 7 for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit its further investigation report into the sensational murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam deferred the deadline and passed the new order after the premier investigation agency failed to submit its probe report on this day.
The judicial directive follows a court order issued on January 15, 2026, which instructed the CID to launch a deeper investigation into the killing.
This came after the case complainant expressed strong dissatisfaction with the initial investigation and filed a 'naraji' (no-confidence) petition against the charge-sheet previously submitted by the Detective Branch (DB) of police.
Prior to the CID's involvement, Inspector Foysal Ahmed of the DB had submitted a charge-sheet on January 6 indicting 17 accused individuals. Among those charged were the alleged shooter, Foysal Karim Masud, and his parents, Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum.
According to the formal case statement, Foysal Karim Masud alongside another accused, Alamgir Hossain, intercepted Hadi while he was travelling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw on December 12, 2025.
The attackers opened fire on the Inqilab Mancha spokesperson before swiftly fleeing the scene.
Following the attack, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber filed a case with the Paltan Model Police Station on December 14.
Although the case was initially registered under charges of attempted murder, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad later ordered the inclusion of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code on December 20, following Hadi's tragic death from his injuries on December 18.
