A special tribunal here set June 1 for holding a hearing on charge framing in a case lodged over the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter in the capital’s Pallabi area.

Judge Masrur Salekin of Dhaka Metropolitan Children Violence Suppression Tribunal passed the order today (on Sunday) after accepting the charge sheet filed in the case.

Police earlier in the day submitted the charge sheet against the alleged rapist and killer Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akter.

Ramisa, a student of class 2 of Popular Model High School, Pallabi was raped and subsequently beheaded by her neighbour Sohel Rana at his flat in Millat Camp area in Pallabi on May 19.

Ramisa’s father filed the case with Pallabi thana next day.

Satkhira-4 MP's First Wife Sent to Jail in Second Wife's Suicide Abetment Case
A local court on Tuesday ordered Maksuda Islam, the first wife of Satkhira-4 constituency Member of Parliament Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam, to be remanded in judicial custody regarding a case alleging her abetment in the suicide of his second wife, Mariam Khatun.  Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ripon Hossain issued the directive after law enforcement personnel presented Maksuda in court upon the conclusion of her one-day police remand, requesting her continued detention until the investigation concludes.  The court had granted a one-day remand for Maksuda and a four-day remand for Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam on September 21. Law enforcement recovered Mariam's body hanging from a ceiling fan inside Flat 203, situated on the third floor of Building 5 at NAM Bhaban, on the evening of September 20, leading to the immediate detention of the Satkhira-4 lawmaker and his first wife.  Following the incident, Mariam's father, SM Masum Billah, lodged a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on the morning of September 21, naming Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Maksuda Islam, and Mariam's maternal uncle Obaidur Rahman as accused parties for allegedly abetting the suicide.
