Court Sets July 15 for CID Report on Sharif Osman Hadi Murder Case

A Dhaka court on Sunday set July 15 as the new date for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit its report on the further investigation into the sensational murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam issued the order after the investigation agency failed to present the report to the court today.

The legal proceedings follow a directive issued by the court on January 15, 2026, which ordered the CID to conduct a further investigation into the killing.

This order came after the complainant expressed dissatisfaction with the initial charge sheet submitted by the Detective Branch (DB) of police and filed a "naraji" petition seeking a more thorough probe.

Inspector Foysal Ahmed of the DB had previously submitted the charge sheet on January 6 against 17 individuals, including the alleged shooter, Foysal Karim Masud, and his parents, Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum.

According to the case statement, the incident occurred on December 12, 2025, when Foysal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain opened fire on Hadi while he was traveling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw, after which the attackers fled the scene.

Following the shooting, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber filed the case at the Paltan Model Police Station on December 14.

Although the case was initially filed as an attempted murder, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad ordered the inclusion of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code on December 20, following Hadi's death in the hospital on December 18.
