ICT-2 to Deliver Verdict Any Day in Case against Quader, 6 Others

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 has reserved its verdict in a crimes against humanity case filed over the killings during the July-August Mass Uprising 2024 against seven individuals, including Awami League (AL) General Secretary and former minister Obaidul Quader.

A three-member bench of the tribunal, headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, placed the case on CAV (curia advisari vult), a Latin legal term meaning "the court awaits judgment," after the conclusion of final arguments on Monday.

The date for delivering the judgment will be announced soon.

During the arguments, the prosecution petitioned the tribunal to hand down the maximum punishment to the accused while ordering the confiscation of their properties.

The six other defendants in the case are AL Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, banned Bangladesh Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain and its General Secretary Wali Asif Inan.

Earlier on December 18, 2025, the second tribunal took the formal charges submitted against the seven accused into cognizance and issued warrants for their arrest.

Following the incident, Mariam's father, SM Masum Billah, lodged a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on the morning of September 21, naming Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Maksuda Islam, and Mariam's maternal uncle Obaidur Rahman as accused parties for allegedly abetting the suicide.
