The escalating military conflict in the Middle East has disrupted regional aviation, leaving Bangladesh national cricket star Mushfiqur Rahim among thousands of passengers stranded in Saudi Arabia.
The disruption follows a series of retaliatory strikes by Iran against U.S. installations in several Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, in response to the joint U.S.-Israeli offensive on Iranian soil yesterday.
Flight Turned Back Mid-Air
Mushfiqur, who recently traveled to the Kingdom to perform the holy Umrah, was scheduled to return to Dhaka yesterday via Dubai. However, the volatility of the airspace forced his flight to retreat.
Taking to social media to update his fans, Mushfiqur shared his current ordeal:
"Assalamu Alaikum everyone. I came to Makkah a few days ago to perform Umrah. Alhamdulillah, I completed my pilgrimage and was returning to Bangladesh today via Dubai on Emirates Airlines. We departed Jeddah this morning on flight EK 0806," Mushfiqur wrote.
"However, due to the ongoing war situation between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, all flights have been turned back to Jeddah. I am currently at Jeddah Airport along with thousands of other passengers."
Uncertainty Over Return
The veteran wicketkeeper-pinner expressed deep concern over the timing of his return to Dhaka as missile exchanges continue across the region. "Almighty Allah knows best when and how we will return to Dhaka. I seek everyone's prayers," he added.
Regional Chaos
The crisis began early this morning when U.S. and Israeli forces launched a massive military operation within Iran. In a swift counter-offensive, Iran targeted U.S. military assets across six Middle Eastern nations. The resulting closure of multiple airspaces has thrown international travel into a state of chaos, with major carriers suspending or rerouting flights to avoid combat zones.
