The Board of Directors election for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to take place today, Sunday (June 7). Voting will be conducted at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The names of the winning directors will be officially announced following the counting of votes, with the election for the BCB President and Vice-President scheduled to take place on the same day.
Out of the 25 director positions on the BCB board, 10 seats have already been settled. Eight directors have been elected uncontested, while the remaining two will be nominated directly by the National Sports Council (NSC).
Consequently, polling will be held today for the remaining 15 directorial posts.
According to the BCB constitution, 10 directors are elected from the District and Divisional Sports Associations, 12 from Dhaka-based clubs, and one from the category comprising former cricketers, captains, and public service institutions.
Former director and Chittagong University councilor Sirajuddin Md. Alamgir has already been elected uncontested as the sole candidate in his respective category.
Under the District and Divisional Sports Associations category, Minhajul Abedin Nannu and Moin Uddin (Chittagong Division), Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury (Sylhet), Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto (Rajshahi Division), Mirza Faysal Amin (Rangpur Division), and Saied Bin Zaman alongside S M Abdullah Al Fuad (Dhaka Division) have all been elected uncontested.
Voting within the divisional category will only take place for Khulna and Barisal divisions. Mohammad Shafikul Alam, Shantanu Islam, and Mohammad Abdus Salam are competing for two posts in Khulna Division, while Mohammad Mizanur Rahman and Mohammad Muntasir Alam Chowdhury are vying for the lone seat from Barisal Division.
Meanwhile, intense polling is expected in the highly competitive Dhaka Club category. Despite two withdrawal of nominations, 16 candidates remain in the fray for 12 director positions.
The candidates contesting in this category include: Tamim Iqbal, Fahim Sinha, Masuduzzaman, Rafikul Islam Babu, Saied Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khosru, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Shaniyan Tanim, Amjad Hossain, Syed Borhanul Hessen Pappu, Sakif Ahmed Salam, Asif Rabbani, Fayazur Rahman Mitu, Prof. Dr. Sarker Mahbub Hossain Shamim, Major Imroz, and Yasir Mohammad Foysal Ashik.
Following the conclusion of the directorial polls, the newly formed board of directors will vote to elect the next BCB President and Vice-President, drawing significant attention from the country's cricketing fraternity over the future leadership of Bangladesh's cricket administration.
